V.J.DAY 75TH ANNIVERSARY

 On Saturday 15th August 2020, in partnership with The Manor Park Friends Group, Sutton New Town Community Festival invited the people of Sutton to join us in remembering with thanksgiving the 75th Anniversary of the end of the second world war following the Victory over Japan.  

During the war, the British Empire and Dominions raised a total of 8,586,000 men for military service. More than 5 million came from the British Isles, 1,440,500 from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, 629,000 from Canada, 413,000 from Australia, 136,000 from South Africa, 128,500 from New Zealand and more than 134,000 from other colonies.

The commemoration allowed Sutton to acknowledge the scale of the service and sacrifice made by the men and women of the Second World War generation from all the countries that make up the Commonwealth.
