Earth Day - 22nd April 2023

Earth Day is Saturday 22nd April 2023, and Sutton New Town Community Festival is excited to be celebrating with our community! We're always looking for ways to bring people together this year we've got a fun and educational idea to share.

A Stitch To Wear

Earth Day - 22nd April 2023

Earth Day - 22nd April 2023

We are joining with our friends "A Stitch To Wear Clothes Swap", Friends of Manor Park Primary, and the local Scout and Guide groups to grow thousands of sunflowers this summer.  This is all part of our Flowering Festival 2023.

How to grow your Flowering Festival sunflowers

And if you don't have your own garden then don't worry!  We will be partnering with the Welsh Chapel on Lind Road to create a community garden as part of our Gardening Club.

How To Make Biodegradable Mini Planters From Toilet Paper Rolls

If you're looking to grow sunflower seedlings indoors before planting them outside, making a biodegradable pot is a great way to do so while being environmentally conscious.   Here's how!

We want to encourage our local children to get their hands in the soil and try growing their own plants. To do this, we're giving away packets of sunflower seeds to all the kids in our community. Sunflowers are a great plant to grow because they're easy to care for, and they grow quickly, so kids can see the results of their efforts in just a few weeks.

There are many benefits to growing plants, especially for children. Gardening can teach kids about responsibility, patience, and the importance of caring for living things. It can also help them develop a connection to the natural world and an appreciation for the environment. And, of course, it's a great way to get outside and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine!
